The Relentless Theatre Company, originally based in Los Angeles will present a staged reading of their first East Coast production, of Shelia Callaghan’s provocative new play, THE HUNGER WALTZ. The Hunger Waltz explores a woman's search for her identity over a period of six hundred years. The play takes place in three acts and in three distinct time periods: the Eighteenth century, the Twentieth century, and the Twenty-second century. Gwen, the protagonist, is searching for a personal freedom she cannot name. Elements of the supernatural intervene and guide her on her quest to discover her unbridled desire, through interactions with her female lover and her abusive husband. Within the confines of societal pressures and self-imposed barriers, the play investigates one woman's decisions as she navigates through the literal breakdown of communication, as the language slowly truncates itself over time.

The Relentless Theatre Company, noted for their “relentlessy gritty work” (LA Times) has moved to New York. This award winning Company won top ten recognition in 1997 by the LA Times for their first production of Judith Thompson’s THE CRACKWALKER. In the years following the company produced Christopher Kyles’s THE MONOGAMIST, Naomi Iizuka’s SKIN and Paula Vogel’s AND BABY MAKES SEVEN.
