In August of 1995, chashama presented its very 1st production, “Jr. Black’s Office”, a radical multimedia performance installation staged from the 2nd floor windows of this building, the audio for which was beamed to street audiences via local radio signal to boomboxes on the surrounding sidewalks.
In late 2004 into 2006, after relocating our headquarters to 3rd Avenue, we re-acquired space on the 14th floor of this downtown office building and hosted the following programming:
First session (9 months): 46 studio aritsts, one resident theater company.
Second session (6 months): 37 studio artists, 4 resident theater companies.
Artists in this program included Kristin Anderson, Dominic Albo, Peter Bill, Kendall Bradford, Sarah Brenneman, Maria Cataldo, Head Clausnitzer, David Dalessandro, Emily C. DeCola, Yukari Edamitsu, Elia Gurna, Clay Hapaz, Rebecca Hazard, Janusz Jaworski, Ryan Kitson, Michelle Kurlan, Jose Landoni, Danny Licul, Daphane Park, Avani Patel, Antonio Puri, Dean Radinovsky, Scrapworm, Amy Sinclair, Mark Stone, Sydney Maresca, Mark Wiener, and Yoichiro Yoda.
