April 16th 2017 marks the third anniversary of the Sewol Ferry tragedy in South Korea. There were over 300 victims in the accident, including hundreds of high school students on a field trip. Nine passengers still have not been found. Almost three years have passed since the disaster, yet many questions remain unanswered.

In Winds of Hope, ShinYoung An addresses three socio-political issues around the world that remain largely unresolved. Gun violence in America and civil rights demonstrations in both the Middle East and Asia are presented alongside her collection commemorating the Sewol Ferry disaster. Audiences are invited to add their messages and signatures to An's collaborative works, emphasizing that awareness and involvement can offer hope to these ongoing crises.
