26-09 Jackson Ave
Long Island City, Queens
(between the Citibank Tower and the overpass)

The first edition of our monthly musical and theatrical evening.  This month features:
* The amazing and bizarre Ambergris, a band that incorporates drawings, costumes and piano rolls to illustrate its psychedelic art-rock showtunes.
* Nick Demopoulos and his SMOMID, a new kind of instrument that looks like an electric bass but is anything but!
..and special theatrical guests.

About Ambergris:
Matthew Thurber's band Ambergris has performed its "Anti-Matter Cabaret" since 2003 at venues such as Issue Project Room, the Hammer Museum in L.A., and the Fumetto Festival in Switzerland. Ambergris has produced one LP for Feeding Tube Records as well as numerous CD and book-on-tape recordings. Ambergris varies in its approach, from karaoke sung over player-piano music to miniature theatrical environments.

About Nick Demopoulos and the Smomid:
Nick Demopoulos is a composer, performer, producer and sound designer.  The Smomid is a unique musical instrument whose name is an acronym for String Modeling Midi Device. This instrument was created by Nick Demopoulos and looks like a touch sensitive guitar. The Smomid is a novel way to create music, with one musician controlling melodies, percussion samples, bass lines, manipulating audio samples and musical arrangements from a grid on a fretboard and buttons on a body.
