Urban Passages explores the energy of New York City. Using reclaimed wood, the artist's work contains references to the past and to built structures of NYC, while also alluding to the cycles of nature: birth, growth, decay, death and rebirth. The rough surfaces, irregular shapes and casual carpentry belie the artist's exquisite touch and sense of proportion and composition.

About the artist:

Yasmin Gur is an Israeli artist based in Brooklyn.  Using weathered material, she appropriates the histories of the salvaged material itself to create structures that evoke the living processes of an organism. Her work, biomorphic yet geometric abstract forms in wood, metal, and other materials, embodies sensuality, ambiguity, and ambivalence.

Her public commissions include PS1 Summer Celebrations, Roberson Museum and Science Center in Binghamton, NY and Reading Garden Outdoor Sculpture for PS166. Yasmin earned her MFA from Brooklyn College and received her BFA from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel. Her work has been widely exhibited in Israel and the United States, most recently in a 2013 solo show at Sculptors Guild Gallery in Dumbo, and an upcoming exhibition at Governors Island at the summer of 2014. Yasmin participated in CurateNYC2013 where her work "BIoom” was selected by curator Hitomi Iwasaki (Director of Exhibitions, Queens Museum), Brooke Davis Anderson (Executive Director, US Biennial Inc.), and Mahnaz Fancy (Executive Director of ArteEast).

Yasmin is currently a member of Sculptors Guild and a resident artist of the chashama Studio Program at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.
