The "Mermaid Project" is a collaboration between painter Nick Stavrides and photographer Anthony Collins featuring a series of high-resulution, photographic prints overlayed with acrylic and oil paint, as well as India Ink.
Artist Bios
Nick Stavrides is a self-trained painter who was born and raised in New York City. Stavrides draws inspiration from both the city itself, as well as Northwestern Indian art, which he believes are characterized by energy and rhythm. Stavrides has exhibited in New York City, Privincetown, Massachusetts, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Montauk, New York. He is currently among the artists featrured in one of New York City's most vibrant public art installations - The Sing For Hope Piano, a work featuring 88 artist-designed pianos which are placed in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York durign the first two weeks of June. Stavrides designed a piano titled "City Reef", which was placed on a Pier in Riverside Park. (www.nickstavrides.com)
Anthony Collins is a New York City based professional photographer. While his commercial work has been published by a variety of prominent news outlets, such as The New York Times, The Financial Times of London, NBC, Fox News and CNN., he has also sought to establish himself as a fine artist by exhibiting his personal work at at galleries and shows.
