For over 20 years, chashama has supported artists by transforming unutilized real estate into free and subsidized work and presentation space.
This exhibit features the work of six past and present chashama studio artists. All works have been donated by the artists and 100% of the proceeds from sales will benefit chashama’s ongoing programming. If you are interested in purchasing a piece, please contact the curator.
About the Artists
Peter Bill's paint and video landscapes have shown in such diverse venues as The Kitchen(NYC), the Henry Art Gallery(Seattle), FILE Festival(São Paulo, Brazil), and other international venues. He continues in his oil paintings and video work to weave the painterly with the digital, pixels and paint, indigo and 191970 blue. He is Assistant Professor of New Media at Western New Mexico University.
Pamela Lawton’s paintings have reflected the height of the World Trade Center, the cacophony of Times Square, and the rhythm of the Indian Ocean, all places where she has painted with zeal. She has exhibited in galleries and museums both locally and internationally. Her work is represented in numerous collections both in the US and abroad, public and private. Interviews featuring her one-person exhibitions were featured on NY 1 News. She received a BA from Bennington College in visual arts and an MFA in painting from the City College in New York and Scuola Lorenzo De Medici in Florence, Italy. While a faculty member at Eugene Lang College, New School University, she created a study-abroad art program in Sri Lanka. She has been teaching at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for more than ten years, where she helped to create a course “Seeing Through Drawing”.
Beth Livensperger is a painter who lives and works in Queens, NY. She holds a B.F.A. from The Cooper Union (2001) and an M.F.A. from Yale (2008). In 2010 - 11 she was an Artist in Residence at the Abrons Art Center in Manhattan. She has exhibited in numerous venues, including The Icebox in Philadelphia, Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica, and Gallery 4 Walls in Seoul.
Anne Tichich is a retired architect who graduated from Cooper Union in 1971
Nathan Wasserbauer received his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia in 2006 and his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1997. His work deals with the passage of time on micro and macrocosmic levels, exploring both elemental and metaphysical concepts. He has lectured at Hofstra University, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Wasserbauer has been awarded a full fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center, Jentel Artist Residency in Banner Wyoming, and is currently a resident of the Chashama Workspace Program in Brooklyn, New York, where he lives with his wife and 4 cats.
Elizabeth Whalley is a Canadian artist based in Morin Heights, Quebec and New York. She employs traditional and experimental media for projects that evolve in response to site, materials, and technologies. She shows regularly in the New York and Montreal areas and has participated in collaborative and interactive events including projects at Artspace, New Haven, CT, The MALL, Minneapolis, MN; old media festival, Sackville, New Brunswick and Morin Heights, Quebec; Proteus Gowanus, Conflux, Flux Factory, and PIMA in New York. She received her MFA from Brooklyn College after studies at Concordia University, Montreal, and has taught at Adelphi University, UC Davis, Haverford College, Pratt Institute, Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art, and Brooklyn College.
