Round The Block!
Now in its third season, Round The Block! Celebrating Arts and Community in the Garment District is a promenade-style performance connecting all the creative people in the neighborhood – businesses, community organizations, garment workers, visual artists, and theatermakers. This season, they want to focus on the idea of craft, using it to explore both the history and the ever-evolving tenancy of one of New York’s most diverse neighborhoods. Renewed energy and curiosity brought by a new team of artists acting as their guides are filling this unique and entertaining performance tour.
This year’s presentation features two itineraries, different on Friday and Saturday afternoon. The tours, led by their artistic guides – some returning, some new – will depart every 30 minutes and last about 45 minutes each, and both will conclude at their West 36th Street home with a mini-performance and a snack.
Theaterlab’s mission is to serve New York’s diverse communities of artists as well as the general public by presenting and developing emerging new work.
Theaterlab is a women-and artist-led laboratory dedicated to researching the nature of live performance, including theater, music, and hybrid forms. We also focus on audience development as a creative project, regarding the theatrical experience as a creative public assembly and audience members as a key partner in fulfilling our mission.
In addition to producing and presenting new work, Theaterlab provides affordable space for rehearsal and project development, including resident and affiliate artists programs.
