Fusing dance and video imagery, Reflection Spectrum asks: Which is the real you—the one people see or the one on the inside? How are we affected by visible reflections? Are we aware of reflections that cannot be seen? Why do we feel, say, or do certain things...?
About the Choreographers:
Colorado native Amanda Carlson moved to NYC in 2013 to "bring the theatrical fashion show to life in NYC," while pursuing both dance and choreography. She has been the lead choreographer and co-producer for numerous theatrical fashion shows in both New York and Colorado, including: Fashion Roars (NY), Telluride AIDS Benefit Fashion Show (CO), Aspen Cares Fashion Show (CO), Retrograde (CO), and The Green Runway (CO). A NASM certified personal trainer, Amanda continues to pursue both fitness training and education. Previously an USAG competitive gymnast, she currently coaches gymnastics. Having trained in a wide range of techniques—including contemporary floorwork, jazz, ballet, hip hop, street jazz, waacking, house, popping, African, modern, Latin fusion and more—Amanda currently dances and performs with Kalamadir Dance Company, Breaking Conformity Productions, and The Invitation Company, is an assistant teacher at the Broadway Dance Center, and teaches dance throughout the city.
Originally from Tallin, Estonia, Diina Tamm is currently a NYC based choreographer, dancer, and teacher. Having completed her dancer education at the Estonian Dance Agency, she went on to graduate from Broadway Dance Center's ISVP (International Student Visa Program). Diina has performed in a variety of shows and plays in the U.S., Canada, Estonia, Sweden, and Finland, productions on cruise ships, tv shows and commercials both on Estonian National Television and on ABC's Good Morning America, and in a number of music videos, including those for for Icona Pop and MisterWives. Diina has presented her work in various festivals in NYC; worked as a choreographer for Dance Factory—one of the largest Showproduction companies in Scandinavia; choreographed various gala events at the Estonian House New York and, in collaboration with Lauren Blue De Angelo, choreographed the Italian musical, Sette Mondi ; and assisted Ryan Daniel Beck in choreographing ABC's Columbus Day Parade. She has taught classes for various age groups in Estonia, Spain, and the U.S.. Alongside technique, she values the story behind each dance--regardless of whether she creates or performs it.
Versatile mover and creator Vivake Khamsingsavath (Vive) is a Brooklyn based dancer, choreographer and teacher, whose movement organically fuses contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. Before moving to NYC, Vive toured Europe and Asia with Galumpha, a modern dance company, based in upstate NY. Vive has danced for choreographers Derek Mitchell, Yung-Li, Mark Caserta, Liz Piccoli, and Stephanie Klemons, with many companies including ALMA NYC, Touch Performance Art, Jazz Roots, and Gotham Dance Theater, and performed at Lincoln Center, Broadway at Bryant Park, Fashion Week in NYC, and on The Today Show, The View, and Good Morning America. He has worked earnestly to find his own voice as both a teacher and choreographer, teaching at numerous studios and universities, including Peridance, PMT, House of Movement, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Fredonia and The New School. He presents work under his company Viveforlove and invites new artists to learn his choreographic process and create. In that vein, he has enabled hundreds of artists to perform in NYC, at events with organizations such as the UN, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein, and at showcases such as Christopher Palacio Rooftop, The Intimate Series, Conkrete Jungle, and Launch by GDT. Vive also serves as a supervising teacher at Dance United, a company whose sole purpose is to bring dance and arts into underserved public schools in NYC.
Brinda Guha has been learning Indian Classical Kathak dance for 20 years from her mother, Smt. Malabika Guha, with Kalamandir Dance Company (KDC) NJ. She has been invited to perform solo throughout the US and has done both solo and group performances in England and India. Brinda has performed several times for the South Asian Theater Festival under renowned directors and choreographers and produced her own feature-length dance theater pieces for the festival. Artistic choreography and teaching collaborations include working with Malabika Guha, Justin Conte, Derek Mitchell, Ashlé Dawson, Carlos Neto, Lauren Cox/Humans Collective, INNO'vation Artists/Myriam Gadri, Subhasis Das, Gowanus Arts Center, FUNKtion Dance Complex, and Ria DasGupta. She has studied Manipuri East Indian dance as well as Flamenco Spanish Classical dancing under Dionisia Garcia. In early 2014, she began leading the New York City branch of KDC. They have performed at Gowanus Arts Center, Broadway Dance Center, Actors Fund Arts Center, Secret Theater, Brooklyn Dance Festival, NYCDA Dance Festival, Symphony Space, Dixon Place, Highline Ballroom, and more. Currently, Brinda is the Educational Programs Coordinator at Broadway Dance Center and is represented by Ramona’s Model & Talent, a commercial print modeling agency based in the greater NYC area.
