Carmelo Midili's "Recent Work" is an exhibition of assemblage sculptures. The wooden armatures are swathed in canvases, appropriated from art school dumpsters. The practice of recycling works stems from the artist's reflections on the concept of failure. Failure in development – not only as  artists, but also as human beings – is an essential step for growth. Midili celebrates the process of development by reviving these abandoned paintings and paying homage to the artists' failures.

Artist's Bio:
Carmelo Midili is a Sicilian artist, who has lived and worked in New York since 2005. Midili has held a vast number of exhibitions both across the United States and abroad. He has held residency fellowships at: The Edward F. Albee Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, Sculpture Space, and more. He is a current recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. Midili earned a degree in Civil Engineering from The Polytechnic University in Torino and subsequently went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, and The Art Students League of New York.
