Precarious Certainty
Kyoko Miyabe

Kyoko Miyabe’s paintings explore a visual language that combines elements of lyrical and biomorphic abstraction. She creates images by building the pictorial surface with semi-transparent layering techniques, and placing different organic shapes in a world of their own. These shapes can be likened to anthropomorphic beings, humming a tune that alludes to what is felt when the self reflects on its relation to the world. It may be a sense of wonderment or bewilderment, a wish to persevere or assert itself, or simply be in the present moment.
