Practice of Interest
Colby Cannon Welsh

Practice of Interest is a survey of new paintings, screen print, assemblage, sculpture and photography made between 2016 and 2018 in NYC. The exhibition title is in contrast to the prevalent mode of artist branding: to craft a recognizable style in a single medium without jumping into completely new territory on a whim. Instead, Cannon advocates practicing in the medium and on the topics you are interested at that moment while embracing the failures that are intrinsic to new materials.

Practice of Interest is Cannon’s second solo exhibition in NYC. His first solo show was a performance art piece at Bath House Studios in the East Village titled Millennials in January 2017.
