Poetics of Architecture: A FORGOTTEN LANDS Pop-up

Poetics of Architecture: A FORGOTTEN LANDS Pop-up is conceived as a dynamic, multi-use space that expands the themes of Volume 07: Poetics of Architecture. Serving as both reference library and launch exhibition site, the pop-up will provide a gathering place for readers, artists, and community members to encounter the ideas of the publication in dialogue with contemporary art practices.

At its core, the exhibition reflects FORGOTTEN LANDS’ commitment to amplifying voices from the Caribbean and its diaspora through books, exhibitions, and collaborative cultural projects. Guest edited by Shameekia Shantel Johnson, the publication draws inspiration from thinkers Sylvia Wynter and June Jordan to reimagine architecture in its broadest sense: physical, cultural, ecological, psychological, and spiritual. The pop-up extends this inquiry into an active space that functions as archive, platform for exchange, and site of experimentation.

The works on view will include 2–5 artists whose practices resonate with the publication’s central questions. These artworks not only accompany the book but also open portals into the expanded landscapes it imagines.

The reference library will anchor the pop-up, offering visitors access to texts and materials that informed the making of Volume 07. By weaving together scholarship, archival resources, and creative works, the library provides context for deeper engagement and situates the book within a broader lineage of Caribbean diasporic thought and cultural production.

Ultimately, the exhibition will serve as a temporary landmark that embodies the fluid, speculative, and collective spirit of Caribbean diasporic creativity. By bringing together publication, exhibition, and reference materials under one roof, the pop-up creates an environment where art, dialogue, and community converge.
