Agnès Pezeu's intimate portrayal of the human condition creates an ethereal ambience. Her figures, light yet dynamic in movement, embellish a sense of fluidity.
Pezeu captures the intimate communication of the human body through life-sized portraits. A multi-part process, Pezeu lays canvases along the floor of her studio, or a performance space, and then asks her models to contort their bodies in reaction to her oration of personal or mythological stories.
These visceral reactions are seized by Pezeu who then loosely traces each body leaving an empty silhouette. She completes her process by adding her own corporeal response to the figures through gestural exaggerations Pezeu approaches the canvas by pouring, splattering and dripping the paint. Her process blends her own body with the bodies she is capturing on canvas.
