(between 7th and 8th Ave)
New York, NY
November 30th - December 12th 2011
Opening: December 1st 6-9 pm
Rebecca Sherman’s Nite Light showcases an abstract cityscape of mixed media paintings and digital projections amongst an illuminated led installation with a soundtrack produced by Estelle Bajou. This hybrid genre project will unfold in chashama’s 266 Gallery as a vibrant dialogue between moving and still images.
Rebecca Sherman’s artwork is inspired by New York City’s constant evolution, collective memory, imaginary picture and ultimate essence. The images feature architectural structures and transcendental environments of an urban landscape intoxicated by color and illumination. Based on the idea of a pre-coded landscape, her dream-like metropolis utilizes fragments of the real world in transit. The quixotic reconstruction of the city paints a visual soundtrack for the intangible experience of its changing space.
