Fresh classical music meets world music, folk, and pop culture in this acoustic set for harp, flute, viola, and percussion. Blending influences ranging from Indonesia to Mexico, Percussia’s musicians are raring to lead the way in New York City’s musical and cultural reawakening. Percussia is dedicated to presenting music that reflects New York’s vitality and strength drawn from its remarkable diversity. The group plays everything from new classical music to heavy metal, video game music, and traditional music from Indonesia and the Scottish Highlands all infused with a unique modern twist. The original piece Together!* by viola player Ljova, which was designed to be performed over Zoom, will be presented fully live and in person.

About the Artist 

Percussia is a Jackson Heights-based musical group that presents music that’s as eclectic as the neighborhood it calls home, performing a mash-up of classical, modern, popular, and world music styles. With percussion as its driving force, Percussia is known for delivering dynamic and engaging performances. Their body of work includes numerous world premiere commissions as well as original arrangements. Percussia has performed in many community-based settings, schools, and concert halls throughout Queens and the greater New York metro area. Outdoor appearances during the pandemic include the Jackson Height Vax Fest, the Free Synagogue of Flushing Community Gardens, and public parks throughout NYC. Percussia made a cameo appearance in Frederick Wiseman’s acclaimed documentary film In Jackson Heights.
