Artist Bio:
Odele Eleanor Zhang was born in 1987. She grew up in China in the early '90's, relocating to Cleveland, OH with her family in 1998. Odele gathers artistic influence from a variety of cultural sources. She studied starting in high school and took fine arts classes at the University of Pennsylvania during her college years. However, Odele has evolved into an an artist mostly through her own practices and observations. She believes that true understanding and expression of oneself depends not on formative education, but on one’s own initiative to keep on pondering. In late 2009, Odele moved to Shanghai. Her return to China has given her an unpredicted opportunity to reevaluate the contexts -- “community,” “nation,” or “world” -- in which we live. Currently, Odele divides her time between the United States and China.
