For most of the forty six years that Thelma Appel has been painting, she has focused on depicting aspects of nature - exploring the tension that exists between observed reality and abstract synthesis. In some paintings, nature is presented by itself, in others, nature is in dialogue with the built environment of towns and cities.
This exhibit of landscapes and cityscapes features work spanning thirty years; many of them exhibited for the first time. This is a very small selection of Appel’s prolific and ongoing artistic practice. For more of her work, please visit www.tappelart.com.
