Following a recent show in Berlin, join Odele E. Zhang at 266 West 37th Street, New York for the open studio event/exhibition - JUNGLE. You might encounter a tiger, a black jaguar, perhaps even a dinosaur. There is also the possibility to meet the artist or interact (reservation required).
Odele E. Zhang's focus is Animals; encouraging the viewer to explore feelings and experience cathartic, mysterious visual journeys without the hindrance of cultural barriers. These animals often “travel” to places they shouldn’t appear or interact with strange man-made objects. Zhang is interested in the impossible; so at least in the visual world that she presents, they are possible. Within her work, motifs such as conflicts in seemingly harmonious settings, lack of human presence, possibilities of world peace and cross-cultural understanding are explored.
Zhang creates open-ended images and does not prescribe an interpretation of her work, rather, she encourages the audience to interpret and reflect, drawing on their own psyche and "isms." Through active global audience interaction, Zhang reflects on the idea that art can mean different things to different people.
