About Jesse
Jesse Hawley is an illustrator, designer, printmaker and decorative artist. She has illustrated Animals vs. Furniture by Normandy Sherwood (Ugly Duckling Presse) and the forthcoming What Happened to an Alligator by Leon Stanley. She is a founding member and co-artistic director of The National Theater of the United States of America, with whom she has designed site specific spectacles since 2000, and performed them across the United States and in Ireland. Jesse was honored, with the rest of the design team, with a 2006 Obie award for the design of Abacus Black, which premiered at Performance Space 122, the 2007 Spalding Grey Award for innovation in theater for Chautauqua!, which has toured the U.S. for the past 4 years, and most recently was nominated for a 2012 Hewes set design award for The Golden Veil, which premiered at The Kitchen. Jesse’s mural installation for the production of Young Jean Lee’s Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven has toured both nationally and internationally with the production. She also works as a decorative artist, gilder, and maker of custom wallpaper in NYC, where she lives with her husband, son and daughter.
