Commerce and consumerism is often geared towards magnifying female appearance and beauty. Women can lose track of themselves through a variety of social forces focused around their appearance and sexuality. The venue of a storefront window provides an exciting opportunity to explore some of the confusion, grief and joy women experience on their search for a true identity.
Starting in 2007, IRIS is both a humorous and disturbing project that has evolved during its several iterations in various venues. The original project, a dance theater work with projections and original music, exposes the character's anxieties and excitement as she decides what to do with her large pile of purple bras, tissue boxes, pair of oranges, and high heels. This iteration will take these ideas and transform them into a storefront window performance with twelve performers.
