Slide Projection Performance:

Caleb Nussear presents a 4-channel slide show in a vacant storefront at 1351 Amsterdam Avenue, located in West Harlem. Caleb will manually cycle through his extensive collection of slides using differing regular time increments for each projector varying from 10 seconds to 5 minutes per slide. Any narratives constructed will be according to purely chance associations in the changing interplay of slides. The slides are projected onto intricately folded paper screens hung upon the north, east, south, and west corners of the room.
The slide collection features the following: personal slides taken during urban walks of Oakland, CA, Chicago, and New York City; forgotten performances held at PS1 in the late 70’s; past slide installations held in various European capitals; advertising imagery; satellite / aircraft survey images of Harlem; as well as other misc. images.
Mulled wine will be served.
Artist Info:
Caleb Nussear is an American artist living in New York. He received a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Bard College at Simon’s Rock and an M.A. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago. Mr. Nussear’s work is based on the overlap between complex formal geometries, physical and mathematical concepts of higher dimensionality, the natural landscape as it is found, and finally, the sensual, tensile quality of line drawing. He is comfortable working in drawing, sculpture, photography, and installation.
