Futuristic Fossil will explore the recent assemblage sculptures of Natalie Collette Wood. Her past work is made from discarded plastic, steel, wood, clay, and personal items to create forms that are reminiscent of another planet or a Futuristic Fossil. The work is autobiographical and questions ideas of imperfect beauty and its relationship to fantasy and the exotic by creating a tension between the natural and synthetic.  This installation will be made mostly out of found materials and will incorporate discarded materials from her personal life.  Wood is questioning our relationship with waste and perfection. The installation will include a library of hanging large scale work that will extend onto the walls and floor as well as a shadow installation. The work will celebrate a throbbing, pulsating, force that is fantasy, sculpture, and abstraction.

About the Artist:
Natalie Collette Wood was born in Las Vegas, NV in 1982. She currently lives and maintains a studio in the South Bronx. She received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004 and moved to the Bronx shortly after to begin working as a Maxillofacial Facial Prosthetic Technician at The Bronx VA Hospital. Later she received an MFA from Herbert H. Lehman College in 2009. Her recent sculptures continue an investigation into abstraction, space, and the virtual age. The work is created from collected materials and then fabricated to look like it comes from a different planet. The work is based on her life but also references a world that goes beyond the limits of our own experience. Wood has participated in the chashama Studio Program, Artist in the Marketplace Program at the Bronx Museum of Art, and currently has a large scale moss installation entitled “ The Green Yard Project” at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.
