This performance is an energetic vibrant cultural dance experience specific to the African Caribbean Diaspora. FIYAH! will bring dynamic song and dance to Times Square. Part staged and part organically formed as many African and Caribbean dance forms are community dances. The performance will include live drum, call and response, freestyle soloists and more, such as a Bob Marley/Reggae Dancehall tribute; hoping to get the crowd moving, singing, smiling and full of joy.

About the Artist
Jessica Phoenix is the Director and Choreographer of FIYAH Dancehall Theater. Phoenix has continued to work tirelessly to honor and promote the African Caribbean dance culture; presenting it to wider audiences by teaching classes, workshops and master classes throughout the USA. She received the honor of teaching a master class at the world renowned DanceJA in Kingston, Jamaica and continues to keep close connections by visiting Jamaica frequently.
Notably, Jessica Phoenix was recognized as the US Female Dancer nominee in the Dance Jamaica Awards. In 2013 she created her two-hour debut Dancehall Theater production at Roulette Theater in New York City; this production was well received and has since been presented in 2014 and 2015 at Symphony Space and Santos Party House.
Her new partnership with Leida LADYSOL Villegas recently landed her choreography work on the famous Harris Theater stage with “LadySol presents for the Chicago Innovation Awards.” Together, Phoenix and LadySol co-founded and developed FIYAH FIT Ladies Caribbean Dance Fitness, which is also helping to spread the Jamaican Dancehall and Afro-Caribbean culture through dance and health. It is quickly growing with weekly classes in Chicago and New York.
