by The Art Students League of New York

In a new partnership, the Art Students League of New York and ChaShaMa join forces to initiate artistic activations in vacant retail spaces across the five boroughs. These presentations will celebrate global stories by emerging artists at the Art Students League while repurposing unused city real estate.

About the exhibition

In its first Exhibition Outreach show with Chashama, The Art Students League of New York presents: Fantasia

Fantasia is an eclectic series of works by League students working across a range of media. This show’s mixture of forms, like its musical namesake, celebrates spontaneity and the gathering of distinct styles to create harmony. This year’s global health emergency has greatly impacted artists but has not drained their inspiration nor halted their practices. As the city slowly starts to reawaken, we invite you into the imaginations of artists who have continued composing through the pandemic.

Artists featured in Fantasia are Walter Altamirano, Bruna D’Alessandro, Magdalena Dukiewicz, Debra Friedkin, Yolande Heijnen, John Parnell, Fulvia Zambon.

The Art Students League offers its great thanks to instructors Naomi Campbell, Marshall Jones, and Haksul Lee for serving on the Instructor Review Committee to create this group show.

About The Art Student League of New York

Founded in 1875 and today the country’s oldest independent art school, The Art Students League continues its pioneering spirit in arts education. The League centers educational freedom, accessibility, studio-based learning, and the fostering of a community where anyone who wishes to pursue the study of art can realize their full potential. The League fulfills this mission by offering affordable, high-quality education and instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and assemblage. The student artwork on view in this space is part of The League’s Exhibition Outreach, a professional development program where emerging artists learn the critical process of exhibition-making.
