About H.K.M.A.
human kinetics movement arts creates site-specific movement installations. Blending dance and the visual arts, our goal is to transform the environment in such a way that the audience becomes sensitized to new possibilities of perception and meaning.
Director Yana Schnitzler: "I’m fascinated by fabric. My primary working principle is to explore the different aspects of this material in relation to the human body. Each Movement installation is inspired by and created for a specific environment. By utilizing elements of surprise and (dis)integration, the installations become an integral part of that environment, and at the same time give it new meaning. In their often sculpturesque character, the installations expose the hidden poetry of public spaces."
This project is supported in part by grants from chashama and The New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
