Eating Our Fathers
curated by Stacey AS Pritchard

Opening on May 18, 2019 at Chashama’s Space to Present at 60 Main Street, Matawan, NJ, the curated art exhibition Eating Our Fathers will run from May 18 – June 7, 2019.

The show brings together nine diverse artists who were asked to deconstruct, reconstruct, or in some way “digest” an iconic work of art by one of the many “art fathers” who represent the majority of the art historical canon, and re-imagine it from their own female perspective. The show attempts to both ask and answer questions like What do we do with the troubled history of these art fathers — those unruly titans who broke rules and changed the way we practice and see art? And how do women define themselves and create space for their own work in relation to the outsized presence of these men?” Where are the “art mothers” in our art educations? “The conversations and discussions I’ve had bringing together the work in this show has already fed me a great deal,” said Stacey AS Pritchard, curator of the show, “and I cannot wait to share some of these viewpoints.”

Participating Artists
Hema A Bharadwaj, Tracy Coon, Kate Eggelston, Ellen Martin, Juliet Martin, Grace Modla, Stacey AS Pritchard, Reynolds and Kortez Robinson.
