Oberst’s latest works, displayed in the atrium at 45 Broadway, reflect her obsession with childhood, dreams, and memory. Childhood informs our lives, consciously and unconsciously. Therefore, objects from those early times can have deep emotional resonance. By abstracting these childhood objects, their literal connotations are transformed, revealing our own unique experiences with them; they serve as metaphors for deeply held memories. These paintings bring past and present together in one expansive, dream-like space. They’re serious, yet full of joy.
Her artwork has been shown in one-person, two-person and group shows in various galleries and venues in NYC and other American cities. Solo exhibitions include those at the Willoughby Sharpe Gallery, NYC, the Margaret Bodell Gallery, NYC, and M55 Art, NYC. Internationally, she had a major two-person show at the Vit Gallery in Seoul, S. Korea (2011).
