Bowery Days
Justin Wood
Bowery Days is an experimental presentation of recent works from Justin Wood. Inspired by the history of 222 Bowery, Wood is creating new projection-mapped installation based on Mark Rothko’s Seagram Paintings as well as a new iteration of March Towards Extinction, a video-mapped installation built out of wreckage from Hurricane Irma. The exhibit will also include new mixed-media paintings and screen-based works that highlight Wood’s signature digital-hybrid approach to time-based painting.
Bowery Days takes its name from a painting by Michael Goldberg, who once lived and worked at 222 Bowery. Wood studied under Goldberg and considers the artist one of his earliest influences. Over the years, the building has had many famous tenants and served as mixing point for the most notable artists, musicians and writers throughout the 20th century. To continue in this spirit, Wood is collaborating with some of the city’s most important emerging musicians and poets, and will present a live audio visual performance on 2/16 and a reading on 2/23.
