Thusday 6/12 & Friday 6/13, 5 - 7 pm
Saturday 6/14 & Sunday 6/15, 1 - 4 pm
Performances will be on loop. Audience members pick a number and the corresponding character steps outside to perform for you on a box in front of the window.
About the performance:
Here a sampling of Tennessee Williams’ famous female protagonists live behind glass together, in a space out of context from their original. They are in asylum, on the verge of absolute breakdown. Here, they will exist together fainting, lounging, feeding, exhibit nervousness, boredom as they spend hours in the performance space. They will pop into a soaring performance from the play they originated at the behest of the audience.
These women will be trapped in a human zoo of sorts, a purgatory, destined to play out their journeys which only exist within the context of the play provided. Once they get to the end of the play, they have to start again – reliving the laughter and the horror of their situations. It will be a celebration of American classics, of the deep dark southern gothic, of the theatrical performance of fallen debutantes.
About the artist:
Dara Malina is a theatre director based in New York City with a passion for creating many different kinds of performance. This project is part of a line of radical performance experiments Dara has created with ensembles of fearless performers. Dara has worked with Williamstown Theatre Festival, chashama, Women's Project, TEAM, La MaMa ETC and Performance Lab 115. Recent projects include: Hamletmachine, Uncle Vanya, More Than One Good Way To Drown, and Lilith. Past work at chashama: Hysteria Project/beautiful women eating cake and les boudoirs des deux femmes. Currently, she is pursuing her MFA in Theatre Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts. www.daramalina.com
