At The Table
The Art Students League

The Art Students League opens the year 2021 with a feast in the form of a new group exhibition: “At The Table.” The artists set “the table” with diverse interpretations on the theme; some artists approach the table by creating thoughtful compositions of food-based still lives, a tradition with a long history from Dutch Baroque Masters to Wayne Thiebaud’s pop desserts. Other artists set the table with abstractions and reinventions, addressing the personal and shared issues that “the table” can bring up. Who is “at the table,” and why? What is being served? This wide range of works responds, examining the abundance of emotion at any table – empty, or full.

At The Table Food Drive for The Campaign Against Hunger:

At The Table is an exhibition by Art Students League students celebrating themes of feast, abundance, and togetherness at One Brooklyn Bridge Park in partnership with Chashama. The League has extended this filling conversation by commencing a Food Drive, collecting donations of sealed, nonperishable food items to donate to The Campaign Against Hunger.

The food drive will take place:

About The Artist Students League:

The League was founded in 1875 by students breaking away from the National Academy of Design. That independent spirit remains at The League today, where students pursue their work unconstrained by dogma, politics or burdensome tuition. We educate students in the language and process of making art in an environment where anyone who wishes to pursue arts education can realize their full potential. The League fulfills this mission by offering affordable, high-quality education and instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and assemblage. Artists who have studied at the League include Georgia O’Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, James Rosenquist and Ai-Weiwei, among others.
