Alter Icons
Svetlana Rabey

The figures in Alter Icons originate from the artist’s childhood memories, and regularly recur as drawings, sculptures, and paintings in her work. The soft sculptures are hand sewn, arranged like saints in a church or like dancers on a stage–they are symbols of the human form that also evoke a narrative. The intricate stitches form tightly-snaking contours of the long arms and legs, including mistakes and tangles that build up a chaotic embroidery.
