A Decade in Dumbo: 4 Installations
Diana Jensen is presenting a decade survey of four, multi-paneled painting installations. For 11 years she had a painting studio in the Dumbo neighborhood. Focusing on portraiture, Jensen was inspired in part by the cross roads of the world atmosphere of this vibrant neighborhood. She makes paintings and installations referencing found vernacular photos—exploring the analog era of collecting and treasuring photographs—revealing their emotional and cultural significance. These four installations reference snapshots found in thrift stores, flea markets and the walls of a Pizzeria, in oil on canvas mounted on shaped wood and plexiglass panels.
Galactic 99 Installation consists of 99 paintings of pizzeria workers; Group Shot Italy, 1972 Installation is 40 paintings that reference one family photo; New York Story Installation’s source is a 1970’s era album of party pictures; Miami Fragments Installation draws from the 1980’s era holiday postcards of one senior couple.
