And Then I Woke Up...
Evan Lorberbaum
And Then I Woke Up… is a solo presentation by artist Evan Lorberbaum, whose work reflects a yearning for timelessness; a moment when the present unfolds on the canvas, and the usual constraints of time and space dissolve, leaving only pure engagement with the creative process. Fully immersed in the rhythm and energy of creation, the artist achieves a seamless connection between thought and action, mind and material.
Lorberbaum’s experiences as an artist and his paintings reflect the way we all navigate through life: embracing unexpected moments during the creative process and discovering freedom within them. This ‘controlled chaos,’ as the artist calls it, involves adding and subtracting layers on the canvas, scraping through them to reveal hidden perspectives. With each brushstroke, the artist shapes what the painting will express, much like how each step in his journey shapes the course of his life.
About the Artist
Evan Lorberbaum is a visual artist who creates under the moniker ELO, which is short for his movement “Encourage Life Originality”. ELO aims to inspire others to reach their full potential in life through embracing their own individuality. While attending NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study (BA ’16), his area of concentration was “The Business of Art and Entrepreneurship”. During his time at Gallatin he developed a keen, arts-centric interest in branding and digital marketing. ELO’s artistic style and vision is influenced by graffiti, abstract expressionism and his own relationship with time, personal growth and pop culture.
