From opportunities at chashama.org Fri Oct 14 14:54:04 2005 From: opportunities at chashama.org (for artist who want to know about new spaces and opportunities) Date: Fri, 14 Oct 2005 17:54:04 -0400 Subject: [Opportunities] call for submissions for possible new programming Message-ID: <010701c5d109$ccde03a0$6401a8c0@VAIO> please forward chashama is looking to enact three new and one previous series for the 2006 season and possibly beyond: Little Music Month Talk Show from the chashama Windows Open View Experimental Musical Readings Performance Program: "Little Music Month" is intended as a one-month series (a day per week or else weekends in the month) of new or little-played acoustic music of the more experimental or avant sort, curated by those familiar with those who may have need of a basic no-frills venue in which to play / debut their / someone's works. we are looking for curators as well as musicians interested in this program. Window Program: "chashama Talk Shows from chashama Windows" (working title) is the format of talk radio "broadcast" from a chashama window venue via external speakers carrying sound from inside the space, and can also accommodate microphones set up outside for passersby to talk to those inside. (it would not be actually broadcast via radio signal, although we are also considering podcasting events). this format debuted as "Street Talk" by Lada Tatyana Lysniak at chashama's erstwhile 135 W.42nd Street venue and proved popular and successful enough that we are looking to extend the idea to others who, in addition to Lada, may want to host a similar show at one of our venues. Window Program: "Open View" would use film or digital format for projections either on a scrim drawn across the window or, in the case of 217E.42nd Street, on the large wall facing the street behind the stage. live performance in the course of projections will also be considered. the public nature of this project requires only material in keeping with public viewing: no nudity, profanity or vulgarity. digital format is somewhat preferred for this program as it requires less maintenance and/or a projectionist present for the looping of longer-term projections. however, submissions including a projectionist on-site will also be considered. Window Program: "Experimental Musical Readings" is essentially as it sounds: the reading of a play with music, or other such compositions suitable for causal viewing by passersby. we feel that the addition of music to the workshop reading of text would make good use of and be a good draw for a window venue. the format should be basic, consisting for the most part of people with sheet music on a chashama window stage in public view, singing and declaiming straight from the page of a musical, oratorio, opera, etc., for lunchtime or evening crowds via external speakers mounted for the purpose to several of our chashama venues. additional instrumentation can be acoustic or electronic; the use of electric instruments or trap drums unfortunately can create a noise issue. DUE TO THE PUBLIC NATURE OF WINDOWS PROGRAMS ALL WINDOW SHOWS MUST CONTAIN NO NUDITY, PROFANITY OR VULGARITY. ***NOTE*** these projects are not yet officially part of chashama programming, and their enactment (and all other programs) is dependent on the acquisition or loss of venues as well as other programming in them, and while not guaranteed to happen, are still intended for the next season of events at chashama. there is currently no stipend budgeted for these programs, nor are they currently associated directly with AREA Award programs, though this may change.
